Warm-Up Calls with Rebekkah and Lisa

On this episode of Financially Naked: Stories from The Financial Gym, our host is Emily Egan, PR Manager. She is joined by Rebekkah Holleman and Lisa Heavin, both warm-up call leads, to talk about warm-up calls.

Podcast Notes

  • The warm-up call is usually the client’s first contact with The Gym, and the goal is to welcome new clients. Warm-up calls also help clients understand how The Gym will work with them and what The Gym can do to help them. This also helps The Gym get to know the client and learn about their goals, struggles, and what they are working on.

  • Warm-up call associates match clients to trainers and match them with the right program.

  • The warm-up call team is made up of clients of The Gym. They have been through the process and they have had the experience of a warm-up call. They can answer a lot of questions about the process and what it is like to be a client.

  • Types of questions the warm-up call team asks:

    • Do you rent or do you own?

    • Do you work full time or part time, or are you a student?

    • Are you married or single?

    • Do you have children? Do they still live with you?

    • Have you ever worked with a financial advisor?

    • Are you using any resources or tools, like apps or spreadsheets?

    • What kind of help are you looking for? Are you focused on paying off debt or are you saving for something?

  • Common goals include paying off student loans, saving for a house, planning for a family, and retirement planning.

  • Emily, Rebekkah, and Lisa all started as clients and now work at The Gym full time.

  • When Rebekkah thinks about her warm up call, she remembers feeling a lot of shame, but after the call she felt comfortable and that she was in a safe space. Money was tight and she didn’t know how she was going to pay for it, but she signed up anyway.

  • Lisa was recently divorced and had two adolescent boys, when she found the Martinis and Your Money podcast. She signed up as a client at The Gym shortly after.

  • Lisa loves talking to women who are recently divorced, because she feels like she is giving people hope. She loves meeting people from different walks of life.

  • Rebekkah’s most memorable call was with someone who regularly made $2,000 a day. When Rebekkah shared that she had credit card debt, this client also shared that with her.

  • Rebekkah paid off $14,000 of credit card debt and changed her spending habits completely. Joy is her trainer. The process was comforting, because nobody made her feel bad.

  • The trainers have different areas of expertise. The warm-up team tries to find the best personality and expertise for each client.

  • Common questions from warm-up calls:

    • How do you choose my trainer?

    • May I talk to my trainer if something comes up or do I need to wait until my check in appointment?

    • May I pick my trainer? What happens if I want to change trainers?

    • May I meet with my trainer in the evening or on Saturdays?

    • How will you figure out how I can pay for the service?

    • How long will I need to be a member?

  • Clients with the highest success rate are those that stay with their trainer for at least six months.
