Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging: Wellness Mindset

In this episode of Financially Naked: Stories from The Financial Gym, our hosts are Rachel Adaline and Genar Mendez. Today's conversation is centered around focusing on your wellness and mindset for 2024. Since the holidays can often lead to financial stress, we'll discuss how you can prioritize your financial and general well-being this year.

Podcast Notes

  • Wellness is going to look different for everyone. There is no right or wrong way, it's about finding what is true to you.

  • When it comes to your finances, doing the tasks may not feel beneficial at the moment, but doing them is taking care of your future self.

  • Burnout does not only apply to work. You can feel personal life burnout as well. In that moment, take a step back and reflect. What makes you feel that way, and how can you take care of yourself?

  • It's important to prioritize your mental health in all areas of your life: professional, personal, and financial.

Disconnect to Reconnect

  • We are constantly stimulated during the day, many of us looking at screens. We aren't built to handle this level at all times. You have to disconnect completely in order to ground and reconnect.

  • If you have paid time off, it's important to fully disconnect so you can relax.

  • If you're not sure what you need, talk to your family, friends, or partner. They know you the best and can support you.

  • Sometimes, we just need to be heard and have someone hold space.

Financial Wellness

  • Your money can be used to spend time together and create connections. There will always be societal pressures to do more, but you only have to do what you truly want.

  • Having the support and accountability of others can go a long way if you're working on a goal. You don't have to do things alone.

  • Having support through your financial goals can help you stay motivated. If you don't have a friend to talk with, a Financial Trainer can be your accountability partner!

  • It can be challenging to stay focused on your financial goals throughout the year, and having support along the way can make it easier.

  • If last year's holiday season was stressful financially, you can start budgeting and saving for it now.

Where to get started?

  • If you get to the end of the day and need to decompress, there are ways to move those feelings out of your body.

  • Meditation and breathwork is an amazing tool. It's simple and free, and you can do it just about anywhere. If you're new, be patient. It takes time to build the meditation skill.

  • Shaking your body is a way you can work to regulate your nervous system.

  • A yoga practice is a great way to move your body and focus on breathing.

  • It's all about experimenting and finding what you like. These methods can be explored for free, making them a great place to start.
