Life Planning in a Pandemic with Crystal and Sara B

On this episode of Financially Naked: Stories from The Financial Gym, our host is Crystal Martinez, Financial Trainer, and she is joined by her colleague, Sara B.

Podcast Notes

  • As COVID persists, and there is no clear ending, Crystal has been seeing life changes happening sooner with clients. This includes the mass exodus of clients from the city, buying homes earlier, buying cars to travel, etc.

  • Sara noticed that many of her clients are also making changes much sooner than planned. Some are moving to places they never thought they would, making career changes, or starting side hustles. Clients are realizing that life is short.

  • Many clients were on a clear path before the pandemic and then did a 180 degree turn. Some clients have been afraid to talk about what they really want and, in these times, they’ve decided to pursue them.

  • “Be stubborn about your goals and flexible about your methods”. This is a small period of time where people are feeling restricted, but in the grand scheme of things, it won’t be forever and it makes us more creative and flexible.

  • When it comes to life planning, whatever you are feeling in your heart and mind, get it on paper and find someone to hold you accountable. Focus on the facts first and then trust your intuition.

  • When you are in a career transition, focus on what you can control and create a positive routine. This means eating well, consuming good information, and exercising, rather than online shopping and scrolling Instagram.

  • What can you do today to push yourself forward instead of staying in the state of wondering when things will change? We have more agency over our lives than we realize and a lot of this has to do with mindset.

  • “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference” — Serenity Prayer

  • If you are suffering, don’t do it in silence. You can reach out and ask for support. Trainers at The Gym are there to support you.

  • Once clients feel comfortable with their finances, everything else seems to fall in line.

  • If you need help unpacking your goals and finances, Financial Trainers have empathy, no judgement, and will work with your budget.
