When did you originally join the Financial Gym Advisors?
2018
What inspired you to join the Financial Gym Advisors?
Financially, my credit card debt was high and long-standing, I had no idea where my money was going, and my savings account was bare bones. I had attended a Wine and Learn and was drawn to the warm, inviting environment that the community, staff and space exuded. Prior to TFG, I thought of personal finance as something that was inaccessible and unaffordable to me, and that it was full of people I couldn’t relate to and vice versa- especially as a woman of color. Once I saw that the mission of TFG was all about changing this narrative and including all types of life experiences toward financial empowerment, I was encouraged to join. The empathetic, holistic approach, and compassionate accountability really felt like, and continues to be, some of the biggest contributors of why I joined and continue to be a member. And of course, the wine was hard to say no to also. 🙂
What was the scariest part about joining the Financial Gym Advisors?
Getting out of my own way and really facing my finances! Money/finances were always kind of scary to me. My relationship to money was definitely deficit-based. When I joined, I was definitely nervous about the fact that I knew I had to put in the work and take my discipline muscle to another level in order to break some of my habits and reach my goals.
What has been the most rewarding part about being a client of the Financial Gym Advisors?
Seeing my results get better and better over time! I joined TFG in 2018 and within the first month I felt a big difference in my habits and my confidence with money- even if they were still baby steps. Combined with the work I put in and the guidance from my trainers, I reached my full emergency fund in 2020, eliminated all of my credit card debt in 2021, and am now working on more middle to long term goals such as family planning and investing/retirement. TFG has given me the tools and resources to make my own financial decisions from an informed standpoint, and I’m so grateful to say that my relationship with money is definitely more positive than when I started. It has been a transformative journey!
