5 Awesome Goals Our Clients Have Accomplished This Year

Although 2020 has been a challenging year for many, it’s still important to reflect upon some of the good that has happened in the past year. For this, we turned to some of the cool and impressive things that our clients have still been able to accomplish, despite everything 2020 threw our way!

Erica & Rich: COVID-Safe Wedding at The TFG HQ-- between TWO clients!

Erica (Sara’s Client) and Rich (Crystal’s Client) are two Financial Gym clients (now they have a joint membership!) who were able to get married safely despite the challenges that COVID-19 presented large gatherings this year.

“Rich had been using the Financial Gym for a while when we met. After a few months, he signed me up too, so we could start getting ready for our future together which included a big wedding, kids, and a tri-coastal lifestyle.

With the help from my coach, Sara, we set up a wedding fund and travel fund, aside from my emergency fund. A few months into the pandemic, we found out that we were pregnant and wanted to get married immediately. Since it was the height of the pandemic, this was a nearly impossible task. While discussing the excitement of our engagement, and the challenging task of finding a venue for the wedding, my Financial Trainer offered for us to get married on the rooftop of Financial Gym.

We had our immediate family drive into the city and we hosted the most gorgeous wedding on August 15. Although we only had 20 people in attendance-- including 5 children and our friend who performed our ceremony-- it was absolutely perfect. What we thought was going to be one of the most expensive days of our lives turned out to be quite reasonable. We only spent $2,200 total, which included a rushed custom-made wedding dress, veil, and mask, Rich's suit, a professional photographer, the venue, and flowers. The food, wedding cake, and videographer were gifts from our family. It was such an intimate affair and we are absolutely thrilled with how it turned out. Honestly, without the offer of the rooftop from the Financial Gym, we don't think we would have been able to get married as soon as we wanted to. We are forever grateful for your generosity and the ongoing benefits we receive with our Financial Gym (now joint!) membership. Thank you!”

Chelsea & Todd: Bought an Investment Property in Bali!

Chelsea and Todd (Shannon’s clients) set out on what was planned to be an 8-month journey around the world, but COVID-19 impacted their ability to keep travelling. They ended up “stuck” in Bali for 6 months and certainly made the most of it. Follow along on their journey here: @chelsearusch & @toddroneparker.

“2020 was meant to be the year we traveled the world but when Covid became a reality we were “forced” to settle in Bali for what turned out to be 6 months. We fell in love with the island and with the thumbs up from our Trainer Shannon, we decided to allocate our travel savings towards building a vacation/rental villa in Ubud, Bali! Shannon even connected us to another client who happened to be going through the same process and we were able to share local contacts. We can’t wait for @villaraebali to be complete in 2021 and start seeing a return on our investment!”

Makaiya: Became a Mother!

Makaiya (Victoria’s client) gave birth to a beautiful baby this year and was financially prepared for all of the expenses that come with becoming a new mother.

“When we found out I was pregnant, the greatest thing Victoria advised us to do was have a separate savings account for the baby’s needs. We were able to save roughly $1,500 and contributed some of our tax refunds to this "baby" account. That money allowed us to buy the larger ticket items that we didn't receive from baby showers and we lived off it this year when we needed diapers, bottles, and other miscellaneous items. The greatest thing we did was spend money where we knew it was most necessary. We were able to get a newer, safe car seat and stroller used and bought a $80 crib from Ikea, but spent $300 on a breathable crib mattress.”

Danielle & Brad: Moved across the country!

Packing up and moving far away is never easy, but certainly especially challenging during a global pandemic. Danielle and Brad (Terri’s clients) successfully relocated during this crazy year!

"As is the case with many couples heading into a new year, Danielle and I had lofty goals entering 2020. After helping us overhaul our credit card (over)usage and savings habits during the prior year, Terri, our Trainer, was instrumental in guiding us as we navigated our biggest shared life event to date: a move half-way across the country during a pandemic. With Terri's expert counsel, we were able to successfully plan and finance our journey almost entirely with our savings!"

Jenn: Paid off ALL of her debt!

Jenn (Bridget's client) completed her #1 goal after joining the Gym years ago (she’s an OG client!). She is now living completely debt-free! Way to go Jenn.

“For the past four years, I have been working with the Financial Gym to make my seemingly impossible dreams come true - to be debt free. I remember my first warm up call with Shannon and how nervous I was and how I had never talked to anyone, much less a stranger (well, I wanted to be her best friend from listening to her podcast), about my finances. It took four years and even therapy to come to the healthy and flourishing financial place that I am at today. Bridget, my trainer, is my rock and knows more about me than some of my closest friends. I would not be here today without her, Shannon, and the rest of the FG family.

Debt freedom means that I can support others in ways that I never could have before. Providing hope where there is little or none, is what I plan to do with my money. It’s a continuous journey and one that I’m so glad I signed up for.”
