How Does a Financial Gym Membership Work?

The one-on-one monthly accountability membership at Financial Gym connects you with a Certified Financial Trainer ®, also known as your B.F.F. (Best Financial Friend). Your financial trainer has one job: to help you achieve your financial goals. Here’s what to expect when you are considering adding a financial trainer to your life:

The Warm-Up Call Process

Every one-on-one Financial Gym membership starts with a warm-up call to get to know more about you and to help ensure that TFG is a good fit. Our warm-up team is made up of current clients, so you’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions of someone who has gone through the experience themselves. There is absolutely no pressure to sign up, but if you want to move forward, the warm-up associate will pair you with your very own financial trainer from our diverse team and schedule your first financial session (AKA your “financially naked” session). Our warm-up call team has a great track record of matching clients with a compatible trainer they can speak to openly. Hear more about what to expect during a warm-up call on our podcast All About Warm-Up Calls with Rebekkah and Lisa.

The First Session

During this one-hour meeting, your financial trainer will get to know you, your current financial picture, and your goals. We call it the “financially naked” session because you lay it out there! But don’t worry, your trainer is here to help you reach your goals no matter where you’re starting from—they will not judge you. At the end of your first session, you’ll set up your membership payment and schedule your plan meeting for 1-2 weeks later.

The Plan Meeting

During this session, your trainer will share your financial plan with you, walk you through the details, and answer any questions you have about it. Your financial plan will address savings, spending (AKA “the budget”), debt, retirement, student loans, investing, income, and your personal goals. At the end of the plan, you’ll receive a list of action items to work on for the next 90 days. Listen to Everything You Wanted to Know About Financial Plans with Crystal and Nick for more details about what to expect from your financial plan.

On-Going Accountability & Check-Ins

We know from experience that implementing a financial plan is harder than it looks and you will need support along the way. Your financial trainer will reach out to you monthly by email to check in on your progress. If questions or challenges arise along the way, you can always email your trainer or set up a 15-minute virtual meeting once per month to discuss.

Quarterly Reviews

Every three months, you will meet with your trainer for a full review of your progress. Together, you will:

  • Update your account balances and expenses

  • Review your spending

  • Discuss the action items you completed

  • Celebrate your wins

  • Set new action items for the next quarter

Your trainer will not judge you based on your progress. Instead, they will help you troubleshoot your challenges and give you action steps to continue working toward your goals.

FinGym Community

The fastest and most enjoyable way to make progress on your financial goals is with a community of like-minded people. You can connect with other Financial Gym members through our client-only events, book club, money meetups, paint & sips, and our #FinGymFam Slack channel.
