Annual Financial Tasks with Garrett & Genar

On this episode of Financially Naked: Stories from The Financial Gym, two Certified Financial Trainers, Garrett, and Genar, are here to talk about how to get organized for the new year! From financial tasks to taking care of your mental health, each tip will help set you up for long-term success in 2023.

Podcast Notes

  • A great place to start is reviewing your expenses from 2022.

  • Pay attention to any annual expenses and recurring subscriptions. For annual expenses, set up sinking funds so you can start planning. For subscriptions, evaluate what brings you joy and cut what doesn’t.

  • The holiday is a perfect example of a sinking fund. Review what you just spent on the holiday season. Divide that number by 11, and set that amount each month into the holiday fund.

  • Update all of your passwords. If you aren’t using a password manager, consider trying one. They’re usually just a few dollars a month and help you keep everything secure and organized.

  • If updating your passwords feels overwhelming, at least update all the passwords linked to financial accounts.

  • Audit your inbox and social media. It’s a time to reflect on what you’re consuming. Is it nourishing your goals or distracting you from where you want to go? Let go of what is no longer serving you.

  • Focus on your mental health. The last few years have been tumultuous. While we can’t control what is happening, we can control how we react.

  • Update your will and account beneficiaries.

  • Check your insurance policies.

  • Schedule your yearly doctor and dentist appointments.

  • Clear out the clutter in your life.

  • Taking care of these yearly tasks is a process that takes time. Try not to be overwhelmed. Make yourself a list and take it step by step. Set small, achievable goals for yourself.

  • No matter where you are, know that you are not alone. Reach out for help if you need it.

  • If getting your finances in order is a goal for you in 2023, The Financial Gym would love to help. Reach out to schedule a warm-up call today to learn more.
