A new show from the team at The Financial Gym.
A group of financial coaches travel the country meeting with couples and individuals to talk about their personal finances and life goals and how they can attain their dreams without the fear and shame that money matters often bring.
“Financially Naked” was directed by Jenn Halweil of GoBeyondLab and produced by The Financial Gym. New episodes ranging from 10-12 minutes will be released every week on The Financial Gym’s IGTV and YouTube channels.
5 New Episodes
Episode #1: A Rose Grows in DC
Rose was $94k in debt.
In this episode we watch as Rose works with her Financial Trainer to make key lifestyle improvements that positively impact her mental health and in return, her financial health.
Episode #2: Take Me to Vegas
A year ago Angel had a lot of financial anxiety — he even contemplated fleeing the country to get away from an outstanding student loan bill that went into collections. But, his Trainer helped him negotiate for a higher salary, set up a payment plan for the student loan debt, and tackle his impulse shopping to establish a travel and emergency saving fund. A year later, he has $10K in savings, a 777 credit score. After getting into an insane amount of debt to cash in travel rewards points for a trip last year, Angel just got back from the Caribbean where he paid for the entire vacation in cash!
Episode #3: The Millennial Minimoon
Jay and Amanda learned how to navigate Jay’s massive student loan debt ($250K) between getting married and moving. They also share how they romance on a budget including picnics, dinners at home, free museum nights. They took a mini-moon so they could pay down debt, focus on a career change, and save for the bigger, more traditional honeymoon when they have the funds.
Episode #4: The Self-Employed Student
Jaiden is an entrepreneurial prodigy. Not even yet out of college he is one of The Gym’s youngest money makers and determined to make enough money to help save for retirement, pay off his soon-to-be-graduated student debt and have fun with his friends.
Episode #5: Medical Math
Alex has a doctorate in Political Science focused on diversity, inclusion and equality, she also has a doctor...for chronic Lupus. Between ongoing chemo treatments, and two hip surgeries, this self-sufficient feminist has had to find the courage to be vulnerable and to ask others for help in her journey.

The Financial Gym Pulls Back the Curtain on Personal Finance with Launch of Docuseries “Financially Naked”
New Online Show Follows Six Individuals
as They Bare it All on Camera
New York, NY - March 10, 2020 - On March 10th, The Financial Gym launches its first-ever docuseries about six individuals who expose the good, the bad, and the ugly of their personal finances on camera. Tackling everything from substantial student loan debt to impulse spending to salary negotiation,“Financially Naked” takes a candid look at the ebbs and flows of the financial struggles that many Americans experience, but are ashamed to admit.
In an effort to reduce embarrassment people have around issues of money and inspired by the personal and financial growth of its own clients, The Financial Gym is providing a platform to enable the public to see they are not alone in their financial struggles. Viewers will follow the story of Alex, an African American professor living with Lupus whose medical bills have drastically hindered her savings; Angel, a backend computer engineer who struggles with knowing his worth, while he works to pay off over $20,000 in consumer debt; Rose, a communications specialist who works to combat student loan debt and an impulse spending habit brought on by the death of her beloved dog; Amanda and Jay, newlyweds who are learning how to take on a myriad of new expenses while working together to pay off Jay’s six-figure student loan; and Jaiden, a college student who started his own business in an effort to get ahead of the student loans he’ll own on his private university.
“It’s an inspiration to watch these individuals face the fear of their financial burdens head-on,” says Shannon McLay, CEO and founder of The Financial Gym. “We’ve observed firsthand how empowered our clients become once they learn how to manage their finances. I am so pleased that we can now offer an outlet to help consumers learn tangible financial tips and witness life-changing stories in which everything financial is fixable.”

"What I'm most proud of with this show is [that] we turn social stereotypes about money on their head,“ says director, Jenn Halweil. “We feature a couple where the wife is an engineer and the primary breadwinner while her husband finishes school; we explore how spending more money on where you live can counterintuitively pull you out of a poverty trap; and we dig in on how to negotiate your salary with a Hispanic man because women AND minorities face a pay gap. We go beyond entrepreneurship, skyrocketing marriage and student loan costs, and living with the realities of a chronic illness to explore how everyone, regardless of their individual backgrounds, can realize a healthier financial future."
