Coming from a point of zero financial literacy, Columbus began his financial journey during his first year of college, where he made plenty of unwise financial decisions with his newfound freedom. After taking the time to self-educate himself on basic personal financial tips, he was hooked and began his work towards a career path in finance. Personal finances was never emphasized in his community, so when he learned more about the Financial Gym’s judgment-free approach towards everyone’s finances, Columbus knew he found a place where he could best utilize his knowledge. His goal is to create a comfortable environment for anyone ready and willing to make the necessary changes in their financial lives.

What is the best financial advice you were ever given?

Rule #1: Never lose money. Rule #2: Never forget rule #1

What are you working for?

I am working for a life that is void of financial stress. With financial security, I feel that I can better focus.

What’s your best and worst financial decision?

My best financial decision was getting started on my credit and investment journey before entering the workforce. Because of that early start, my financial decision making has more thought behind future beneficial outcomes rather than short-term excitement.

I consider my worst financial decision to be making the choice to buy a newer car to replace my paid off ‘96 Impreza for no real reason, outside of having a newer car. While I love my car, I hate the payments that I’m stuck with.

What’s your favorite financial tip?

Money will always be a tool for your success. The more you look at it as just a tool, the better you can utilize it.
