When I joined the Financial Gym as a client over 5 years ago, I had a mindset of money scarcity. I had just earned a civil engineering degree and tripled my income, but after a decade working in fast food I had doubts the income would last and was afraid to expand my grocery budget past rice and beans. Through working to improve my own finances and mindset I realized the importance of this work and became a trainer to help others live their best financial life.

What is the best financial advice you were ever given?
Spend on your values. Specifically, when my trainer told me I had saved enough to fulfill my goal of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail.

What is your best and worst financial decision?

Best – Going to community college

Worst – Thinking I need to go back to college to earn more

What are you working for?

Growing up I knew I wanted to spend my days how my grandparents did. They had a house that supplied endless creative projects and a backyard with all kinds of outdoor pursuits, and best of all they shared it with others! They set a great model of retirement that I still dream of today.

Favorite financial tip:

Money is correlated with happiness, up until the point where your needs are comfortably met (around $100k depending on where you live). This took away the shame of having money anxiety when I wasn’t earning enough to meet my needs and helped me to relax after I was.

Trainers Favorite Financial Exercises:

Budgeting, Savings, Investing, Money Mindset, and Real Estate/Home Ownership.
