Summer is a time for fun, but between travel, activities, and cookouts, it can be hard on your bank account. Luckily, you probably already have something in your wallet that can help reduce costs and make your summer more enjoyable: a credit card with perks. Here are the best credit card perks to take advantage of this summer:

TSA Pre-Check & Global Entry

Summer travel is expected to increase by more than 6% compared to last year, which means longer lines at security—unless you have TSA pre-check. There are nearly 40 different credit cards that provide customers with a statement credit for the full cost of signing up for TSA pre-check ($78 for five years). Along with shorter lines, travelers with TSA pre-check experience less hassle by keeping their shoes on and electronics inside their bags. For travelers headed abroad, many of the same credit cards will also provide a statement credit for Global Entry ($100 for five years).

Lounge access

Once you make it through security, relax and wait in comfort in an airport lounge. Along with avoiding uncomfortable seating at a packed gate, travelers can take advantage of free food and drinks (including alcoholic beverages). Without much trouble, you can eat and drink $50+ worth during a layover. Some lounges even have massage chairs, showers, and workout rooms. Several credit card companies have their own lounges including Amex, Capital One, and Chase Sapphire. Many co-branded airline cards also offer access to specific lounges associated with the airline such as Admirals Club access for the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard or the United Club through Chase’s United Club Infinite Card.

Concert & Museum Ticket Access

Beyond travel, summer is also a popular time for concerts, events, and live entertainment. Amex, Citi, and Capital One all offer pre-sale for concerts, which can help you snag tickets to your favorite shows or sporting events that are in your price range. Capital One offers cardholders a free 6-month membership to The Cultavist, which offers free museum access to more than 40 museums in Europe and North America.

Car Rental Status & Insurance

If your summer plans involve renting a car, you would benefit from a credit card that offers status with at least one of the major car rental companies such as:

  • National Emerald Club Executive

  • Hertz Gold Plus Rewards or President’s Circle

  • Avis President's Club membership

These status programs include perks like free upgrades, skipping the counter, and dedicated customer support. Many credit cards also offer collision coverage for rental cars so you can skip the add-on insurance fees at the counter. Keep in mind that you must pay for the rental with that specific credit card card for coverage to apply.

Free Grocery Delivery

With more cookouts and social gatherings, the convenience of free grocery delivery without the extra cost is key to feeding more mouths without the extra stress. Several Chase cards offer free delivery through Instacart+ for 3-12 months depending on the card as well as a monthly or quarterly statement credit.
